Couples therapy creates a safe atmosphere where both and your partner can address communication problems such as:
*Unhappiness with each other based on past disagreements, learning how to talk through the issue and put it in the past
*Infidelity (to learn more look specifically for infidelity in services)
*And an inability to compromise.
While addressing those specific issues I will be observe how you and your partner attempt to solve the problem. Our session will also explain the communication pattern and/or inability to move beyond the disagreement . I will teach you specific skills and ques to avoid the negative or circular communication pattern. You will be taught to listen and communicate effectively so as to not create conflict and when conflict does occur you will learn "repair attempts." I will also share the most current research on what "good couples"do to promote healthy communication and what styles predict divorce.
In couples therapy you and your partner will learn how to create a deep friendship, which will be defined as a respect for and enjoyment of each other’s company. In each session you will both learn about each other intimately- you will come to learn about each other’s likes and dislikes, personality quirks, hopes, and dreams in a deeper way. Most importantly you will learn to keep your negative thoughts and feelings about your partner from overwhelming your positive ones. Rather than creating a disagreement you will create a climate of compromise. This positive attitude will allow you and your partner to create a sense of romance, play, fun, adventure, and growing together. And finally, in the strongest of relationships, partners share a deep sense of meaning- we will use this concept as our cornerstone of growth. The ultimate goal is not to "just get along," but support each other’s hopes and aspirations and build a sense of purpose in their lives together.
